The history about the design and construction of the NYC beautiful landmark The Empire State Building is very fascinating indeed, but perhaps the most remarkable part of the building process was the decision made in order to design and build the building top roof as a mooring mast for Zeppelins.
Back on those days, there was a rare coincidence, the simultaneous development of the big transatlantic airships and the rise and development of the skyscrapers.
They took the decision to design and build the zeppelin mooring mast and in doing so, they converted the top roof of the building in the first and highest airship port in the world, making the 102th floor a luxury room for international passengers willing to cross the atlantic in a big zeppelin.
After performing thoughtful consultations with the US NAVY about the functionality of the mooring mast as an airship port, they finally decided to change the use of the mooring mast due to the lack of mature technology available at the epoch to handle some great operational challenges.
On the other hand, the magnificent era of transatlantic travels using luxury airship was postponed.
Could the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Empire State Building be a very nice occasion to reloaded it trough reloading the beautiful concept of an transatlantic airship port?
Perhaps yes. Because America has the great fortune to has the Helium monopoly ( aside the Helium 3 available only in the moon) , the new navigation systems are thriving in light of the AI new wave and above all the Empire State Building is the coolest building in the world to perform a retro futuristic endeavour.
Additionally, Lockheed Martin is expecting to release the brand new LMH-1 hybrid concept airship in 2019, specially designed to carry both cargo and passengers to transport them to remote zones without the requirement the usage of airports. The LMH-1 could boost the sector and provide traction and momentum for the touristic use of airships.
So here we are, creating a first design draft that could allow reload the Empire State Building for the next hundred years while converting it in the first and most awesome airship port of the world.
The core of the concept is the design and creation of a special blimp-elevator which will be a permanent part of the Empire State Building mooring mast and will allow to anchor the airship 1,000 ft above the mooring mast. Therefore the airship will keep its flight altitude performing a smooth approach to the special shape hosting blimp tethered to the mooring mast. Once the airship hook up into the blimp-elevator, the passengers will be transported to the blimp-elevator´s gondola using the airship enclosed bridge.
A real experience of a lifetime commence once the passengers are onboard the blimp-elevator gondola. The blimp-elevator starts to descend 1,000 ft smoothly pulled by the powerful electric motors until reach the Empire State Building Mooring Mast, then they can disembark to the amazing and famous observatory airship terminal.
Then the special helium circulating system placed at the mooring mast will deflate the blimp-elevator envelope and storage the helium in the reservoirs for the next operation.
This is really a big entrance to America, America the beauty through the Empire State Building, the magnificent landmark.
